My friend sent me this link to what I think is the funnest news story I've ever heard. The headline read, "French Police arrest Serial Garden Gnome Thief," and once I read that I'm hooked because I like things that are funny. And a garden gnome thief is funny to me. I picture him sneaking around at night with a black ski mask taking old lady's gnomes. I bet he waits for the right moment in his car until they go to sleep then he runs up and takes it.
Well the story goes on to say, "A 53-year-old man is suspected of the thefts of 170 garden gnomes. However, it is proving difficult to return the gnomes to their real owners-the thief painted them different colors, making identification tricky." How in the world does a man steal 170 garden gnomes, I mean where do you put that many gnomes? Is he building a little army with the gnomes to take over France? I couldn't have come up with something this funny if I tried. here's a link to the story.
Please tell me of the funnest stories you've ever heard.

Prompts
I was talking to someone yesterday about poets using prompts to generate poems. He said, "You will always go to the prompt and try to write for the prompt, it is better to just generate poetry." Naturally I disagreed because I think that a prompt can teach you about your writing, it still generates a poem, and in many cases they can make you a better writer.
What do others think? Are prompts a crutch for people? How do you approach them?

Sorry, I just don't have any thing to talk about
I've been noticing my blog or how I have post in almost a month. Not much has happened. I've been reading for Barn Owl, btw we got some good stuff so far, reading Zbigniew Herbert like its going out of style, watching a lot of movies, Margot at the Wedding was my kind of movie, watching the Euro Cup, all my teams are out but its still great to watch, visited the family, and watched a lot of rain fall.
Haven't written anything that I've like until the other day when I wrote something about a monster in a closet reading Borges. Does anyone else have this problem of producing a lot of stuff they don't like? is it caused by what you're reading, or what you're not reading?

Go Wings!
I've been watching every game of the Stanly Cup Finals this year. This is for several reason. First is that growing up I spent much of my time with my family, who is from Michigan, and together we always watch the Red Wings games. I watched game 4 of the 1997 Stanly Cup Finals with my Uncle, and later he took me to the parade they had for the team after winning the cup that year. I was 14 years old and it was so much fun. The next summer I was once again in Michigan and watch the four game sweep of the Washington Capitals with my Grandma. At seventy plus years she would stay up until the game was over, even if it meant being up until one. I can remember watching every game of that series and it is a memory I will take with me where ever I go. In 2002 when the Wings made it back to the cup I was not in Michigan, but in Ohio where I watched every game including a triple over time win that did not end until 2:00 in the morning. I loved hockey and it was something that I could share with my grandma, who was one of the greatest people I had in my life. Last year I was again in Michigan for the finals, but Detroit was not. I watched the finals with my grandma for the last time that year. Three weeks after the finals we buried her and hockey did not seem as important. Now this year with the way the Wings are playing I'm watching the games at my house, often with my brother, but I feel a connection to my late grandmother. Last night's game 4 was the kind of game she would have loved, great defense, good goal tending, no fights, and a win to bring the Wings back to Detroit to with a chance to win their fourth cup in 11 years. This is the number one reason why this year's playoffs have meant so much to me because it was a way to get over losing my grandma, who I loved very much, while still sharing something with her. So forgive me if I'm always talking about hockey this summer.
